King meets European Council president
His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday, in a meeting with European Council President Donald Tusk, discussed ways to boost cooperation and partnership between Jordan and European Union countries, as the two sides mark 15 years since their partnership agreement came into force.
Discussions covered the importance of the deal to simplify the EU rules of origin in facilitating the increase of Jordanian exports to European markets and paving the way for new investments in Jordan, particularly for companies that target Europe.
The meeting addressed the huge burden on Jordan’s limited resources as it continues to host Syrian refugees, and the EU’s support in this regard.
The two sides also reviewed developments in the Middle East, reaffirming the important role of the EU in achieving progress in the peace process and reaching political solutions to crises in the region to restore security and stability for its peoples.
Moreover, discussions touched on regional and international efforts to fight terrorism within a holistic strategy.
Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, Planning Minister Imad Fakhoury, and Jordan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Sima Bahous attended the meeting.
