20 May 2017

His Majesty King Abdullah on Saturday held meetings with heads of state and senior officials attending the World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa, held at the Dead Sea.

At a meeting with President of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia Gjorge Ivanov, discussions covered means to enhance economic cooperation and addressed efforts to combat terrorism and extremism within a holistic approach.

King Abdullah also met with Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi and discussed enhancing political relations.

In a separate meeting, His Majesty and Niger President Mahamadou Issoufou discussed bilateral ties and the fight against terror, as well as developments in the Middle East.

The King also held a meeting with Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and discussed Jordan’s refugee burden.

The Cypriot president praised the Kingdom's efforts in hosting refugees and urged the international community to support Jordan to enable it to continue this humanitarian role.

In another meeting, His Majesty received Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and discussed the importance of launching a direct flight between Jordan and Georgia, in order to enhance economic cooperation and promote tourism, building further partnerships between the private sectors of both countries.

The King also met with High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, and discussed the Kingdom’s strategic partnership with the European Union, as well as current regional issues.

Mogherini stressed that Jordan is an important stabilising factor in the Middle East, praising the Kingdom's role in hosting a large number of Syrian refugees despite the pressure on its resources.

Prime Minister Hani Mulki, Royal Hashemite Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and Planning Minister Imad Fakhoury attended the meetings.
