King receives Canada defence minister
His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday received Canada National Defence Minister Anita Anand at Al Husseiniya Palace.
The meeting, attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, covered bilateral ties and means to bolster military and defence cooperation, as well as the latest regional and international developments.
Discussing the Palestinian cause, King Abdullah reaffirmed the importance of actively working to create a political horizon to achieve just and comprehensive peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis on the basis of the two-state solution, warning that inflaming the situation will have consequences on regional security.
His Majesty stressed the importance of cooperation between Jordan and Canada to support Iraq, help reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis, and counter terrorism within a holistic approach.
For her part, Minister Anand referred to a number of regional and security-related issues, stressing the importance of the region’s security for Canada, and highlighting ongoing efforts to counter drug smuggling across borders.
The minister also noted the need to support women’s role in security agencies.
Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti, and Canada’s Ambassador to Jordan Tarik Ali Khan attended the meeting.
