King, Saudi monarch attend military parade
His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces, and Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz on Tuesday attended a military parade at Al Rayah parade ground at the Royal Hashemite Court.
The two leaders, surrounded by Royal Guards, were greeted by a 42-gun salute.
The national anthems of both countries played as King Abdullah and King Salman arrived at Al Rayah, while two Royal Jordanian Air Force helicopters flew over the parade ground, raising the flags of Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
The Jordan Armed Forces music band played several pieces as the soldiers marched and lined up in various formations.
Hamzah Bin Abdul Muttalib the Master of Martyrs Special Royal Guards Brigade led the performance, while paratroopers from the Joint Special Operations Forces skydived into the parade ground, with the flags of both countries.
Two poets also recited a Nabataean poem composed for this occasion.
Several royal family members, senior officials and officers, in addition to members of the Saudi royal family and senior officials accompanying King Salman attended the parade.
Also during the ceremony, His Majesty presented the Saudi king with Al Hussein bin Ali Medal, in recognition of Jordan and Saudi Arabia’s deep-rooted ties.
