His Majesty King Abdullah, accompanied by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, held a number of meetings on Tuesday with heads of state and delegations participating in the 72nd Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.

King Abdullah met with Lebanese President Michel Aoun and discussed means to activate and strengthen cooperation and coordination, particularly in the economic, and military fields.

The meeting covered the latest developments in Lebanon, with His Majesty congratulating President Aoun on driving out the Daesh terror group from Lebanese territory.

Discussions also addressed the developments in the Syrian crisis.

At a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, discussions covered the latest developments pertaining to the Palestinian issue.

The two sides affirmed the importance of maintaining Jordanian-Palestinian coordination and consultation on efforts to relaunch the peace process on the basis of the two-state solution, arriving at the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on Palestinian national soil, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Discussions also touched on the important role of the US administration and US President Donald Trump’s commitment to moving the peace process forward.

The King also met with Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi and discussed ways to expand economic cooperation.

President Thaçi noted Jordan’s pivotal role, led by His Majesty, in bringing security and stability to the Middle East and the world, praising the King’s efforts to highlight the true image of Islam.

His Majesty’s meeting with President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev covered regional and international developments, and efforts to fight terrorism, which threatens global security and stability.

President Radev praised Jordan’s role, led by the King, in fighting terrorism.

Discussions also touched on means to enhance economic cooperation by identifying priority sectors.

At a meeting with President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari, His Majesty discussed advancing economic, commercial, and investment ties between the two countries.

Discussions also covered regional and international efforts to fight the global threat of terrorism.

The King also met with Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe, with the two sides expressing keenness to develop cooperation in various fields, and to continue coordination on regional and international issues.

Discussions addressed efforts to relaunch serious and effective Palestinian-Israeli negotiations, as well as the Corridor for Peace and Prosperity initiative launched by Japan nearly 10 years ago to bolster peace efforts in the region.

The two sides reviewed the impact of the Syrian refugee crisis on Jordan’s economy and limited resources.

President Abe praised Jordan’s efforts to serve refugees, reaffirming his country’s support for the Kingdom in this regard and highlighting the deep-rooted ties between Japan and Jordan.

He also expressed concern over the nuclear tests conducted by North Korea.

His Majesty said North Korea’s actions threaten Japan’s security, calling for implementing the UN Security Council’s resolutions in this regard.

President Abe commended Jordan’s role in fighting terrorism and extremism, which threaten global peace.

Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and Jordan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Sima Bahous attended the meetings.

His Majesty had also attended an official luncheon hosted by UN Secretary General António Guterres in honour of heads of state and delegations participating in the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly.
