King receives Turkish FM

His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday received Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu at Al Husseiniya Palace and discussed bilateral ties and current regional developments.

King Abdullah reaffirmed his keenness to take ties to further heights, and to maintain coordination and consultations in the service of the Muslim nation and with the aim of bolstering regional security and stability.

His Majesty also asked the foreign minister to convey his greetings to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Discussions covered means to expand economic and commercial cooperation, with Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu noting that Turkey is in the process of reviewing the free trade agreement between the two countries to facilitate the entry of Jordanian exports.

He added that Turkey looks to utilise the Aqaba Port as a regional gateway for Turkish exports to penetrate various markets, particularly those in Africa.

Discussions also addressed the challenges facing Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and Jordan’s efforts to safeguard these sites, in line with the Hashemite Custodianship.

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu stressed his country’s support for and appreciation of Jordan’s efforts, led by the King, in this regard.

Discussing the developments in Syria, and the two sides reiterated the importance of reaching a political solution to the crisis through the Geneva process that preserves the country’s unity and territorial integrity.

Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, Adviser to His Majesty and National Policies Council Rapporteur Abdullah Wreikat, Turkish Ambassador in Amman Murat Karagöz, and the accompanying visiting delegation attended the meeting.
