King receives delegation from Royal College of Defence Studies

7 May 2018

His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday received at Al Husseiniya Palace a delegation from the British Royal College of Defence Studies, which comprised officers from 12 countries enrolled in the college’s programmes.

Discussions at the meeting, attended by His Royal Highness Prince Feisal bin Al Hussein, covered current regional developments, especially the peace process.

King Abdullah called for stepping up efforts to relaunch Palestinian-Israeli negotiations, based on the two-state solution and with the aim of establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

His Majesty reaffirmed that the issue of Jerusalem must be resolved within the framework of a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

The Syrian crisis and the need to support efforts to reach a political solution within the Geneva process were also discussed.

Discussions touched on the importance of preserving the de-escalation zone in southwestern Syria, which was established under a trilateral Jordanian-US-Russian agreement.

In addition, the meeting covered the burden Jordan is shouldering due to the Syrian refugee crisis and the added pressure it has brought on the Kingdom’s economy and infrastructure, especially among host communities.

Regional and international efforts to fight terrorism within a holistic approach were discussed as well.

Adviser to His Majesty and Director of the Office of His Majesty Manar Dabbas and British Ambassador in Amman Edward Oakden attended the meeting.
