His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday reiterated Jordan’s call for a comprehensive political solution to the Syrian crisis that would end the bloodshed and maintain the country’s unity.

During a meeting with US senators in Amman, King Abdullah highlighted Jordan’s efforts in hosting Syrian refugees. Discussions also covered bilateral cooperation and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and resolving it through the two-state solution.

The senators were: William Cowan (D-Massachusetts), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-New York), Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina), John Hoeven (R-North Dakota) and Amy Klobuchar (D-Minnesota).

Regarding peace efforts, His Majesty stressed that the two-state solution is the sole path to bring about security and stability in the region.

The King warned against Israel’s unilateral measures, including settlement expansion, attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and attempts to “Judaise” the holy city, describing them as a main hindrance to peace efforts.

For their part, the delegation voiced their appreciation for His Majesty’s stances to restore peace and stability in the region, in addition to the way he is dealing with the Arab Spring’s repercussions.

The meeting was attended by Chief of the Royal Court Fayez Tarawneh, His Majesty’s Office Director Imad Fakhoury and US Ambassador to Jordan Stuart Jones.
