His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday discussed with Mayor of London Roger Gifford means to enhance relations between Jordan and Britain in various fields, especially in the areas of consolidation dialogue and coexistence among different religions and peoples, as well as promoting economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries.

King Abdullah stressed the importance of promoting the values of tolerance and moderation in the face of extremism and fanaticism. Jordan, the King added, is constantly working to enhance global understanding.

His Majesty noted the comprehensive reform process in Jordan, especially in the political, economic and social domains.

The King highlighted scopes to enhance cooperation between the Jordanian private sector and Arab and foreign counterparts in order to create jobs and contribute to enhancing the performance of the national economy.

The Mayor of London, on his part, expressed keenness on cementing cooperation with Jordan. He valued His Majesty’s efforts to bring different views closer and build bridges of cooperation and dialogue among followers of monotheistic religions. Gifford pointed out initiatives launched by the King, including the Amman Message, the Common Word and World Interfaith Harmony Week.

During a meeting with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, His Majesty underlined the importance of pressing ahead with interfaith dialogue to enhance values of tolerance and promote the message of love and peace.

The meeting also touched on the latest developments in the Middle East and the situation in Jerusalem, especially the unilateral Israeli measures and threats to its Islamic and Christian holy places. The King stressed the importance of concerted efforts to prevent attempts to Judaise the city and change its identity and landmarks.

Archbishop Williams expressed appreciation for His Majesty’s effort in promoting moderation, as well as Jordan’s care for Islamic and Christian sites in the holy city of Jerusalem.
