His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday underlined the centrality of the Palestinian issue in the region and the need to revive the Middle East peace process.

During a meeting in Amman with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, King Abdullah stressed the need for the international community to continue efforts to restore momentum to the peace process, despite the developments and escalating events in the region.

The King also reiterated Jordan’s stance in supporting the Palestinian people in their quest to regain their rights, especially in the establishment of their independent state on their national soil based on the two-state solution and international resolutions.

His Majesty also called for unifying the Palestinian ranks to reach their sovereign state.

The two leaders discussed steps that should be taken to end the Israeli policies that hinder efforts to bring the peace process forward, arriving at the realisation of an independent and viable Palestinian state within the pre-1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Regarding the latest developments in the Syrian crisis, His Majesty and
Abbas called for a political solution that would prevent more suffering and bloodshed in Syria.

The Palestinian president commended the Kingdom’s position in supporting the Palestinians in regaining their legitimate rights and establishing their own independent country.

He stressed the Palestinian Authority’s commitment to continued coordination with Jordan on issues of mutual concern, particularly efforts to bring about peace.
