His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday met with notables and representatives of the Adwan tribe, one of the key clans in the Kingdom, based in the Jordan Valley and Balqa Governorate.

At the meeting, one in a series of meetings between King Abdullah and community and tribal leaders in rural and urban areas, the Badia and refugee camps, the King was briefed about the needs of the Southern Shuneh District.

Tribe notables, who reiterated support and allegiance to the Hashemite reign, stressed the importance of preserving the country's national unity and safeguarding its security and stability.

In a speech on behalf of the tribe, Sheikh Sultan Majed Adwan emphasised the tribe's keenness to protect national principles and the fabric of the Jordanian community.

“The Kingdom is going through exceptional circumstances that require all to join ranks, extending full support and loyalty to the Hashemite leadership in whose religious, historical and constitutional legitimacy we believe,” said Adwan at the meeting yesterday.

“We reiterate our allegiance to the Kingdom and the Hashemite leadership, and we will not be affected by those who have special agendas and place their interests before the country's,” said Adwan.

On the district's requirements, Adwan proposed focusing on infrastructure and public service projects.

As the district is home to a large number of farmers, Adwan also urged support for small farmers who he said incur losses annually due to factors related to poor marketing, water shortages and adverse weather conditions.

To address the water shortage, he called for building dams and increasing the capacity of existing reservoirs near the area. Adwan also said local road networks required improvement and urged support for the youth and all sports clubs in the Kingdom.
