King receives US secretary of state, warns of catastrophic ramifications of war on Gaza
His Majesty King Abdullah, during a meeting on Sunday with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, warned of the catastrophic ramifications of the continued war on Gaza, stressing the need to end the tragic humanitarian crisis in the Strip.
At the meeting, attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, His Majesty stressed the important role of the United States in pushing towards an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the protection of civilians, while guaranteeing the sustainable delivery of sufficient humanitarian and relief aid to the Strip.
The King reaffirmed that there will be no stability in the region without a just solution to the Palestinian issue and just and comprehensive peace on the basis of the two-state solution.
His Majesty expressed Jordan’s rejection of the forced displacement of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, which constitutes a clear violation of international law, calling for enabling Gazans to return to their homes.
The King also reiterated Jordan’s rejection of attempts to separate Gaza and the West Bank, as they are both part of the Palestinian state.
His Majesty said extremist settler violence against the Palestinians and violations of Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem are completely rejected and must be countered before they lead to an explosion in the region.
The meeting also covered the strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States and means to bolster it across various fields.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, US Ambassador to Jordan Yael Lempert, and the delegation accompanying the US secretary attended the meeting.
